Any news for Syria?

Any news for Syria?

So what do we have? A red line that sometimes is described with a bleak look and strong voice, but at other times seems more like a rubber band in pink jumping up and down. As long as the chemical warfare is not systematical, hey, no big deal!

Then we have Assad, remembering proudly the martyrs of the university in Damascus with a monument and his presence in public, saying as long as life seems normal for enough people in the world, news like the massacre in Banyas are just headlines without consequences. And so it is. By the way, this has nothing to do with the mentioned pink rubber band, it’s just 150 people murdered in one incident. Of course including children and women, unarmed men – it’s war. Yes true, the massacre continued the next day, more than 60 additional persons died.

Finally we have the Israeli army attacking Syria, justifying it with their fight against Hezbollah from Lebanon. Three attacks in two days. The world nods.

What was this all about in Syria? Who is fighting against whom? Religious extremists against the US? Hezbollah against Israel? Some weird bearded Taliban against liberty of western world? No no, don’t worry, it’s just some people fighting against their dictator in a country far away enough!

At least 70.000 Syrians died in the revolution since people started demonstrating peacefully in March 2011. More than a million people were forced to leave their country, more than two millions are refugees within Syria. This dictator needs to be stopped! But how?

Assad needs to step back immediately as a president. If, and that’s most likely, he does not, at least a no fly zone needs to be established with international help in Syria. This, of course, does not include air strikes from Israel. As a matter of fact the Syrian opposition does not want a foreign military power taking over. It is Syrians fighting for their freedom and for another state structure than the dictatorship of the Assad family offered the last decades. But the Syrian opposition needs international help to succeed. Everyday longer that this is not happening, the situation is getting worse, more foreign interests are getting involved, the Syrian struggle is becoming more and more the proxy war, it never wanted to be.

All the UN actions in Syria just showed, that there is no solution with Assad. He is nobody to trust for a beneficial solution, beneficial not for Assad and his group of supporters, but for the Syrian people, for humanity.
In fact it does not make any difference anymore, if and how much of Sarin has been used, why it is possible that groups of supporters known for killing civilians are getting official Syrian uniforms and are now slaughtering in Assad’s name; and after all, how many supporters the Al-Nusra front really has in Syria, how many people actually are fighting on their side.

As long as every single day 100 and more civilians are dying, these are only theoretical questions one can only answer with a practical step: Stop Assad!

  1. Deutscher Text:

Also, was haben wir hier?

Drei Angriffe in zwei Tagen. Die Welt nickt .

Worum ging’s nochmal in Syrien? Wer kämpft gegen wen? Religiöse Extremisten gegen die USA? Hisbollah gegen Israel?
